Try It, You'll Like It

Let's get right to the point, shall we? Criminals who prey upon the perceived weaknesses of others for personal gain, whether it involves money, property, or purely for exercising forced domination upon someone in order to fulfill an emotional need, are wrong, if they believe that they can continue to victimize others without enduring some form of consequences for their planned actions. The approach that I've personally used for most of my life involves the development of "security awareness". It's centered upon the ability to observe ones' surroundings in a relaxed, comfortable, and comprehensive manner, and in exercising this ability, I've been able to avoid being successfully victimized by criminals many, many times. The first method that I'll share comes from my book. "Personal Security Techniques", which is available worldwide as a download or softcover book. While walking in an urban area where there are stores and restaurants, casually use the reflections in the surrounding windows to observe the persons and vehicles around you. About a year ago, I presented a friend with a copy of my book, and after reading about this technique, he tried it, and discovered that someone nearby had noticed that he was carrying a laptop computer, and they'd changed their direction of travel in order to intercept him, in order to take his laptop. Without giving the potential criminals any clue that they'd been detected, he walked into a nearby business establishment, waited a  few moments, checked the area outside, and proceeded with his life as if nothing had happened. Because, in fact, nothing happened due to his relaxed and confident use of "security awareness". Try it yourself, share it with those that you care about, and reply to this post when this technique proves itself effective. Note: Several years after I first self published my book in 1994, I saw a scene from a Hollywood movie where the hero used it to thwart a crew of would-be assassins. It's possible that a screenwriter had read my book, and used this technique to kick off a great story. Or, it was one of those times when more than one great mind had, out of necessity, contemplated urban survival, and discovered this wonderful technique. Be Safe. More to come.
